Dunnington Cancer Support

supporting York Against Cancer

Whilst the shop is on lockdown, work has been continuing behind the scenes. Our chair has taken items to auction and raised a substantial amount of money, see below. We have also had some book sales outside the charity shop on a Saturday which did very well, we would like to thank everyone who supported us. There has been a coin collection, of spare coins found down the back of settees etc.

Sadly due to the new current restrictions, it is not possible to open the shop so it is with regret that we have decided NOT to open the shop until the New Year. So please do not leave any donations outside the shop. In the meantime We are going to give the shop a new look so work will be starting very soon. When we do open, hopefully you will be seeing a fresh new look in the shop. Please watch the web site for further information

Total Money taken to date £2571.56
3 Book sales. £276.50
Coin Hunt. £263.76
Auction £470.00
Shop sales £40.00
Funeral donation £1521.30

Dunnington in Bloom

This has been an odd year for the Bloom team – meeting very regularly as working groups helping to maintain our precious village, but not able to get together in person as a full group to plan and review. We trust these times will pass.

Meanwhile, just a reminder - Have you remembered to pick up the free crop of apples awaiting you in Julia’s Garden? When I was there yesterday (mid September) the trees were full of them, looking their best and crying out to be harvested.

Dunnington WI

The coronavirus continues to wreak havoc with our meetings and the Committee has decided not to restart face to face meetings in the Reading Rooms as the WI regulations and the Reading Rooms guidance together mean the experience would be far from satisfactory.  We are sorry not to be able to meet again yet, but we must keep ourselves safe.

However, time goes on and it is 85 years since the ladies of Dunnington started to meet under the auspices of the Women’s Institute. We are asking our members for their memories of their membership in word, song, artefact or picture. But we are sure there are many people in the village who have memories of their mothers/aunties/sisters/friends going to the WI, or remembering things that the WI did in the village. If you have a story to share, or a wonderful old photo, please do get in touch with Christine Fisher or Alison Holmes on chris.dunningtonwi@gmail.com or 07546 224778 or 07581149056.
