On a Sunday

Covid19 Pandemic

At present (February 2021) our church building is closed both for public worship and private prayer. However, the church is alive and well and meeting for worship and fellowship in other ways. Please consult our Worship page for details.

The information below relates to our worship before the current pandemic.

Every Sunday you will find a welcoming atmosphere at St Nicholas Church. Our 8.00am service is an intimate service focussing around the Communion and the historic words of the Book of Common Prayer. Our 10.30am Worship service is more vibrant, with music playing a large role.

The 10.30am service varies in style from week to week. On the 1st, 3rd and 4th Sundays of the month, it includes Commmunion. On the 2nd Sunday of each month, it is a lay-led service which does not include Communion. On the 3rd Sunday of the month we celebrate All-Age Communion.

Sometimes we sing hymns, accompanied by the organ, and sometimes we have more modern music led by our music group 'Laudate', and sometimes a bit of both!

One Sunday a month (usually the first, unless that falls in the school holidays) we enjoy a family-focussed service at 4.00pm with modern music by 'Laudate', drama, fresh expressions of prayer, birthday celebrations and other fun ways to worship God! This service is followed by a bring and share tea in the Tower Room.

We do not currently have a creche or Sunday school. However, there is a dedicated cosy corner in the north aisle near the entrance to the Lady Chapel. This is complete with soft furnishings and toys for the younger children and activity sheets and pens for the older ones. For more information on what we offer for children please see our Children page.

Our Youth Group 'Ignite' meets on a Sunday evening at 6.00pm, usually twice a month in term time.

We enjoy tea/coffee and biscuits and time to socialise in the Tower Room after the 10.30am service each Sunday.
