Carecent Harvest Appeal

Carecent have had to adapt to a different way of providing food during the pandemic and, as a result, this year they are asking for donations of money rather than goods at Harvest. This will enable them to buy food and other necessary items for the packed lunches they currently provide, and will also give them the flexibility to respond to changing needs.

The parish churches will gather financial donations from parishioners together, so that each church can make a single donation. If you would like to contribute, please do so by Monday 12th October. Money can be given in cash or a cheque payable to your parish church. Give it to your churchwarden or treasurer, or put it through Nick Bird’s letterbox. Thank you very much!

Alternatively, you can send donations directly to Carecent either by cheque to:
Carecent
Central Methodist Church
St Saviourgate
York YO1 8NQ

Or by BACS payment directly to our bank account. Our bank account details:

Below is the text of Carecent's Harvest Letter sent to churches on 16 September.

Dear friends

Carecent Harvest Appeal 2020

As you may be aware, Carecent has been offering a reduced service throughout lockdown – we have provided packed lunches to those in need every Monday to Saturday during the crisis, without missing a day, and we are grateful to you all for the help and support which have made this possible.

It has not yet been possible to re-open our café due to the restrictions on space on both sides of the counter, and we have decided to continue with our take-away packed lunch service for the time being. This enables us to maintain contact with around 30 of our regular customers on a daily basis. In September we started to offer hot drinks to take away, which is a welcome improvement to our service, and which demonstrates our commitment to doing the very best we can, even in these difficult circumstances.

For many years we have asked for donations of tinned goods at Harvest time, and while we are hopeful that in the coming months we will be able to move back inside and to resume our normal service, the current uncertainty means that our immediate needs have changed.

This year, we would be very grateful for financial donations instead of tinned items.

This will enable us to buy food and other necessary items for our packed lunches. It would also give us the flexibility to respond to changing needs. In this way, once we can re-start the café service, we will be able to buy what we need, when we need it, and reduce any loss of out-of-date food.

Please do get in touch for any further information.

With thanks for your understanding
