Health Walks: explore more
The walking book 10 on 10 takes you a little further away. to places stretching from Stamford Bridge to Poppleton. Each of the 10 walks of between 4 and 8 miles has a short route guide and simple map, plus information on places visited. The one below, of seven miles, takes you from the Grimston Bar Park and Ride round the new Eastern and old Western University campuses and back through the village of Heslington. It’s not a well known route, and has some useful information about the development of the University and the Park and Ride services around York, which should become even more important in the ‘new normal’ we expect after the current pandemic has died down. Solo MaraI’ve just heard that the Yorkshire Marathon has been cancelled for this year. This plunges many charities into a deeper financial crisis than the Coronavirus had already created, so I’ve decided to do a solo marathon on the same date - Sunday October 18 - and will again be looking for your support. Instead of the usual route I’ll be treading a 26.2 mile circuit starting at my house and on relatively traffic-free roads. I’ll be hoping for the same wonderful backing you gave me last year, and will again be donating proceeds to two cancer charities - Cancer Research UK and St Leonard’s Hospice, York - who do magnificent work to prevent and alleviate cancer. As usual, you can contribute with used bank notes or at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/DerekUtley Derek Utley
